Digital Smile Design(DSD) – It is a modern solution that allows making a very precise representation of the patient’s planned, final effect of a dental treatment, which is the foundation for a perfect smile. The idea of DSD was born in Brazil, which is famous for its “beautiful smiles”, and its creator is a world-renowned specialist in aesthetic dentistry – Dr. Christian Coachman.
A DSD consultation includes:
- A thorough aesthetic diagnosis, i.e. testing the patient’s face (macro-aesthetics), the outer region of the mouth (mini-aesthetics), the teeth, and the oral cavity (micro-aesthetics)
- Making a teeth scan, which will allow the dentist and the dental technician to make an accurate, digital analysis of teeth, which is needed to plan the treatment
- Additional tests (checking the condition of teeth, radiography)
- Making a series of facial images and images of the patient’s teeth
- Digital wax-up technique performed by the doctor, which is a computer simulation of a new smile
- Transferring the new smile to the patient’s teeth using a special key designed in CAD/CAM
- A session of photographs of the patient’s mouth with a new smile to show the final effect and discuss the planned stages of treatment in detail
